Cannabinoids remain an essential constituent of workplace drug tests because of the high number of positive drug tests and the fact that cannabis remains the number one illicit drug of abuse around the world. As new drug-testing methodologies become more commonplace, the importance of adequate measurement of cannabinoids cannot be over emphasized. Each biological fluid or tissue offers unique information about an individual’s drug use and provides new analytical challenges for sensitive and selective measurement of matrix-specific analyses. Controlled drug administration studies are needed to define drug disposition in these new matrices and to correlate drug concentrations with ongoing pharmaco-dynamic effects
